Red Earth has launched the new Rural Health Pathways Fund to bring doctors and health professionals home.
Investing in local people so that care stays close to home

The Red Earth Community Foundation has proudly launched the Red Earth Rural Health Pathways Fund, a new community-led initiative designed to support the next generation of rural doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.

Announced at the 2025 Rural Healthcare Summit in Moffatdale, the Fund aims to provide direct financial support to Burnett Inland students completing the final stages of their medical or health qualifications away from the region — helping to remove one of the biggest barriers to them returning home to set up long term medical and health practice.

“The Red Earth Rural Health Pathways Fund is about investing in local people so that care stays close to home,” said John Carey, Deputy Chair of Red Earth Community Foundation.

“When we help our young doctors and health professionals complete their training, we’re not just funding qualifications — we’re building the future health of our region.”

The Fund’s first goal is to raise $40,000 to support a local medical intern in 2026, with a long-term vision to grow an enduring community fund that supports future generations across medicine, dentistry, nursing, psychology and allied health.

Developed in partnership with Rural Medical Education Australia, (RuralMedEd) and local health and hospital services, the initiative strengthens the region’s goal to “train and retain” health professionals right here in the Burnett Inland.

“Every dollar given helps a future doctor, nurse or allied health professional come home,” Mr Carey said. “Because what we’re funding isn’t just a qualification — it’s a future of care, confidence, and connection that can make the Burnett Inland a place where care begins and stays”.
